THE country’s covid-19 vaccination programme is on course, with the first jab uptake surpassing the two million mark this Friday.
Government’s inoculation drive is gathering momentum, with 20 percent of the targeted 10 million people having received their first jab as of this Friday.
The milestone is testimony that government is on track to inoculate at least ten million people in order to achieve herd immunity.
“The vaccination programme is positive. We bought twelve million vaccines. We have roped in the private sector and security service personnel and we have outreach mobile clinics so we are on track to achieve heard immunity,” said the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro.
Stakeholders in the health sector are satisfied with the pace of the inoculation drive.
“Recently we have seen a positive trend and an increase in the uptake of the vaccination drive. This is a positive development,” said Dr Itai Rusike, Community Working Group Health Executive Director.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care has also indicated that cases in areas previously identified as hotspots have been declining due to public health control measures and surveillance being implemented in these areas.
As of this Friday, 2 013 340 people had received their first dose, while one million 179 thousand 687 have been fully vaccinated.
