THE Midlands province is targeting to put more than 6 500 hectares under winter wheat this year, with distribution of inputs and verification of farmers now underway.
Preparations for yet another promising winter wheat season are at an advanced stage, with farmers in the Midlands province set to receive inputs under the Presidential Input Scheme and Government Agro Yield Programme.
According to the latest winter wheat update by Midlands Agritex Provincial Crop and Livestock Officer, Mrs Madeline Magwenzi, over 6 500 hectares have been earmarked for winter wheat with farmers being encouraged to plant before the 31 May deadline.
“We have started distributing the inputs for the winter wheat and so far as a province we are targeting more than 6.5k ha of wheat. Preparations are at an advanced stage and we are expecting a promising season,” saidMrs Magwenzi.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development is intensifying training of farmers on important agronomic practices to boost yields.
