JOURNALIST-cum-activist, Hopewell Chin’ono had his bail appeal dismissed by High Court Judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi this Thursday.
Chin’ono is facing charges of inciting public violence and had earlier been denied bail together with Jacob Ngarivhume by the Harare magistrate court.
The reasons for the dismissal of Chin’ono appeal were not readily available but Harare Magistrate, Mr Ngoni Nduna had on 24 July ruled that if granted bail, Chin’ono was likely to tamper with evidence as he once tried to delete his Twitter account.
Meanwhile, another appeal by Ngarivhume will be heard at the High Court this Friday.
Ngarivhume is also charged with inciting public violence by urging Zimbabweans to take part in the flopped 31 July demonstrations.
Ngarivhume was denied bail by the lower court after he failed to prove how the demonstration was to proceed peacefully and without people gathering in the wake of the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
