Notorious Gokwe machete gang jailed

THIRTY-NINE machete gang members have been jailed for obstructing the course of justice after they stormed a police station in Gokwe in an attempt to free their counterparts who had been arrested in January.
Thirty-nine out of forty members of the gang were handed sentences between four and five years each by a Gokwe magistrate for attempting to free their colleagues who were being held at a police station in Nembudziya on allegations of robbing Mums Mine in Gokwe in January.
One of the gang members could not stand trial as he is admitted at a local hospital in Gokwe following a shootout incident that ensued during the failed rescue operation.
The other ten convicts, who are juveniles, were jailed for an effective four years each after one year was suspended on condition they do not commit a similar offense in the next five years.
The state-led by Liberty Chimwaradze successfully managed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the 39 obstructed the course of justice when they stormed Nembudziya Zenda Police Post to rescue nine suspected armed robbers who were being held at the station.
The trial of the nine suspected armed robbers is still ongoing before the same court.
