President Emmerson Mnangagwa says no school should send away learners who have not paid school fees because education is a right.
He was addressing more than 1000 learners in Bulawayo who gathered for the Children’s party ahead of the 4wnd Independence celebrations in the City of Kings.
“All children are guaranteed access to education. This year alone, we are supporting learners through BEAM with uniforms and stationary.
“School authorities should stop abuse, discrimination and sending away learners due to unpaid school fees,” said the President.
He took the learners down the country’s political history.
“42 years ago, on the 18th of April, the British flag was removed and the Zimbabwean flag was raised for the first time, marking the birth of our nation Zimbabwe,” he said.
Added the President: “As the bona-fide future of Zimbabwe, I call upon you to play a part by studying hard, loving one another and rejecting drugs. Let’s build our nation. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo (a country is built by its people).”
