Netball team eyes 2023 Netball World Cup qualification

THE Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems are blending youth and experience as they aim to qualify for the 2023 Netball World Cup set for South Africa.
The Gems have been in camp since the start of the month as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers slated for Cape Town, South Africa, in August.
The new technical team led Ropafadzo Mutsauki has brought in youngsters from different regions to blend youth and experience.
One such player is Wing defender, Tendai Sibanda who is excited to be part of the national team.
“I feel so great to be in the national team for the first time it shows that I have achieved something and I have learnt how to work hard and considering team work which I have improved a lot,” said Sibanda.
Senior players believe they now have a greater role to shepherd youngsters.
“It’s been fruitful the girls are pushing doing their best and we are working hard towards our goals to qualify for the World Cup in August due to dedication and working together as a team and also cooperate with what the coaches and the technical team want if we continue with unity will make it to the world cup, as seniors we are there to help the new guys settle down,” said Moyo.
The Gems trooped into camp early this month and are set to play Malawi and Uganda in friendly matches on dates yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, South Africa-based defender Yeukai Chamba is set to join the team this Saturday after being called up to represent her country for the first time.
