Multi-million dollar brick manufacturing plant for Melfort

Government’s National Development Strategy One which feeds into vision 2030 has received a major boost after a ground-breaking ceremony for a multi-million dollar brick processing plant in Goromonzi this Friday.

The 10 million United States dollar Beta Bricks plant whose ground breaking ceremony was conducted by Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga is set to propel the country to an upper middle income economy by 2030 as infrastructural development is a key economic enabler.

No economy can grow without adequate infrastructure and we therefore applaud this investment as being both timely and critical in the achievement of the NDS1 and vision 2030,he said.

Speaking at the event Beta Bricks CEO Godfrey Manhambara said The new plant is set to bring in new building technologies to supplement current traditional products.

With a housing backlog of 1,3 million houses there is need to come up with new building technologies for cheap and quality production of housing units,said Manhambara.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Sekai Nzenza spoke on the importance of new technologies.

As a ministry we are encouraged and excited to see our local homegrown companies grow to become regional and indeed global brand houses through new technologies,she highlighted.

The new brick processing plant, a public private partnership between Beta Bricks and Zimbabwe Foundation for Education with Production (ZIMFEP), the owners of the Bluewater where the plant is located, will have the capacity to produce 150 million bricks per annum.

As part of its expansion programme, the company is also set to commission new plants in Mutare by February next year and Matabeleland North by April 2023.
