Mozambique impressed by Zimbabwe’s female open prison

ZIMBABWE’S female open prison concept has been hailed as one of the best ways towards rehabilitation of female inmates.
The Mozambican Prison Services delegation, which is in the country on a benchmarking exercise, was at the Marondera female open prison this Thursday where they appreciated the country’s efforts in rehabilitating offenders.
“We really appreciate what you have done here using locally available resources, it shows the seriousness this country attaches to rehabilitation of prisoners,” said Brigadier General Antonio Augusto Maurice, Director General SERNAP and Head of Deprtment.
the ZPCS Commissioner General, Moses Chihobvu said Zimbabwe is ready to work with Mozambique in the correctional services sector.
“We are ready to work with you towards rehabilitation of our prisoners especially women,” nsaid the Commissioner.
The Marondera female open prison, the first such facility for women in Southern Africa, was opened in July last year and currently has 36 inmates and five babies.
