More than half a million Zimbabweans have so far received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, a feat hugely attributed to the dedication of health care workers throughout the country.

Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Heath and Child Care, has commended health care workers for their response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Touring Nyanga District Hospital this Saturday, Vice President Chiwenga highlighted that the welfare of health care workers will be improved and prioritised.

“The purpose of my tour of medical facilities in Manicaland including Nyanga District Hospital is to assess the quality of our health care delivery system particularly so in the wake of the pernicious Covid-19 pandemic as well as thank in person the health care workers who have fought gallantly against the devastating Covid-19,” he said.

Health care workers who spoke to ZBC News applauded government for the acknowledgement and support.

“We are grateful for the support the vice president is giving to the health care workers. He has promised to settle our accommodation issues,” said Acting District Medical Officer, Dr Hamish Mubata.

“We are very happy to be having a minister who appreciates us. In as much as it’s our job but it just feels nice to be appreciated,” said Sister Dorothy Toma, Matron at Nyanga District Hospital.

Vice President Chiwenga has for the past few days been on a tour of health centres and government development projects in Manicaland province.
