Ministry of Health undergoing restructuring: VP Chiwenga

VICE President and Health and Child Care Minister, Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga says government is working on a raft of measures in order to ensure high-levels of health service delivery.
Speaking while on a winter maize crop assessment programme in Middle Sabi and Chiredzi district this Wednesday, Vice President Chiwenga, who was recently appointed Health and Child Care Minister, said a host of measures are being put in place to mitigate the effects of covid-19 as well as to ensure the country’s health facilities provide high level service delivery.
“We are facing a pandemic which is affecting everyone. Mr Covid kills, let the state of affairs here in Masvingo remain like that, we have more than 100 who have lost lives. What we encourage you is to follow the basic rules that have been gazetted by WHO. So we need to always ensure hygiene, use sanitisers maintain social distancing, stay at home, we currently facing a spike in Harare, Gweru Bulawayo which have made our figures shoot up.
“I urge you to make sure we teach the community we are living in. We are restructuring the health system of Zimbabwe we want to establish rural health care facilities up to hospitals. We want together with the ministry of finance and the health services board to see that what happened before will not be repeated. For us to achieve this I need your support. We must work together. I also urge people to observe the WHO Covid 19 guidelines,” he said.
Finance and Economic Development minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube pledged to support the health sector.
“As a country we cannot achieve vision 2030 with poor health. We will make sure the hospitals are fully equipped and that we improve the welfare of health workers as well as provision of drugs,” he said.
The Covid -19 pandemic has affected the entire globe, leaving economies on the verge of collapse. Zimbabwe has so far recorded over 4 800 Covid-19 cases and 104 deaths.
