ZIMBABWEAN international, Blithe Mavesere is making waves in South African Rugby after being named as the Varsity Cup Forward of the Tournament.
The 22 year-old loose forward has been in brilliant form for the University of Western Cape in this year’s Varsity Cup where he scored seven tries in 10 matches.
Affectionately known as Driller, Mavesere was also up for the player of the tournament award but he ended up settling for the best forward of the tournament, dubbed the FNB Forward That Rocks.
The former Churchill Bulldogs player is already in camp with the senior national rugby team preparing for composite friendlies that get underway with a date against Zambia this Wednesday.
Meanwhile, new Sables captain, Hilton Mudariki has emphasised the importance of a positive start in World Cup preparations.
“We definitely need to start strong, the goal is to qualify for the world cup so we need to start testing our combinations now, we lost time last year but now we have to make ground and make sure that we set a platform for the qualifiers that start later in the year,” he said.
Brendon Mudzekenyedzi will start at the centre, with Riaan Oneal selected at fly half, while Brandon Mandivenga will be the full back.
Blithe Mavesere, Tonderai Chawambutsa and Aiden Bunnet will be the loose trio.
In the front role, the fans will get a chance to watch New Zealand based Doug Jusyzky, Matthew Mandioma and David Makanda in partnership for the first time.
