THE ruling ZANU PF party in Matabeleland North Province says support for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill is gaining momentum following high turnout during public hearings held across the province.
The developments emerged during a ZANU PF inter-district meeting held in Lupane on Saturday, where party leaders praised members for backing the proposed constitutional changes.
Provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo said the response during the consultations demonstrated strong support for the Bill and the broader national development agenda.
“Matabeleland North, you were exceptional during the public hearings. You came out in large numbers to support the Bill. Your contributions clearly showed overwhelming support,” he said.
Cde Moyo added that the province would continue mobilising support for the Bill as the process moves towards parliamentary debate.
ZANU PF Politburo Member for Nkayi, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni described the proposed amendment as a strategic move aimed at ensuring policy continuity and accelerating infrastructure development.
“Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill is a strategic response to the needs of our people. By extending our mandate to seven years, we are choosing development over perennial politicking,” she said.
Politburo Member for Binga, Cde Rebecca Fanuel said party structures would continue engaging communities to encourage participation in constitutional processes.
“We will continue engaging every ward and village in Matabeleland North to ensure our people are active participants in the constitutional evolution of our country,” she said.
Party officials and youth leaders also pledged to intensify mobilisation efforts in support of the Bill.
ZANU PF Matabeleland North Youth Chairperson Cde Alvin Lundy Sinzeka said young people in the province support the proposed amendment and will continue awareness campaigns at grassroots level.
The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill is expected to be tabled before Parliament following nationwide public hearings conducted between late March and early April.
