Road rehabilitation works in Matabeleland South province are now in full swing after the government availed over one billion Zimbabwe dollars for the infrastructure for the programme.
The aftermath of the rainy season is all too familiar for farmers in the horticulture producing district of Umzingwane, who are forced to navigate bad roads to access markets in Esigodini, Bulawayo and Gwanda.
The same predicament is also faced by many others on their way to clinics, schools and business centres.
However, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has started working on 26 roads affected by weather related hazards in the province, much to the relief of the benefiting communities.
At least 75 percent of the targeted roads in the province are now undergoing rehabilitation after government availed 860 million Zimbabwe dollars under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme.
Local authorities and the District Development Fund that also benefited from the 1,624 billion dollars allocated to the province are also seized with road rehabilitation works.
