TAWANDA Maswanhise struck twice as Motherwell F.C. secured a comfortable win over Dundee United F.C. in the Scottish Premiership this Saturday, moving to within a point of third-placed Celtic F.C..
Roared on by a strong home crowd at Fir Park, Motherwell extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, while Dundee United slipped to a third consecutive game without victory.
Maswanhise opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a VAR review ruled Vicko Sevelj’s off-the-ball challenge reckless. The Zimbabwean forward calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
He doubled the lead just a minute into the second half, reacting quickest to a deep free-kick before his effort took a deflection into the near corner.
The brace takes Maswanhise’s league tally to 16 goals, placing him two ahead of his closest rival, Benjamin Nygren of Celtic.
Motherwell remain 10 points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian F.C. but have a game in hand, while Dundee United stay seventh, now 12 points adrift of sixth place.
