Masvingo receives Covid vaccine

Masvingo has today received its initial share of Covid-19 vaccines with 22 000 jabs being delivered at the Provincial Medical Director’s Office.
The Sinopharm vaccines will from Saturday be transmitted to all the seven districts in Masvingo with frontline health workers tipped to be the first beneficiaries.
Two teams per district have been created to move around health institutions to start the inoculation of frontline health workers beginning Monday next week.
The vaccines will be stored at the provincial stores at the Ministry of Health and Child Care provincial headquarters before distribution to districts.
Provincial medical director Dr Amadeos Shamu who received the consignment of the vaccines said everything was in place to start vaccination of frontline health workers.
“Every district gave us a rough estimate of the number of frontline health workers that they have and we are going to use those figures to distribute the 22 000 doses that we received today,” said Dr Shamu.
“From tomorrow (Saturday), the vaccines will start being shipped to districts and we hope that by Sunday every district will have received their share ahead of the start of vaccination of frontline health workers on Monday.”
Dr Shamu said that teams that will lead the vaccination had undergone training on how to dispense the jabs.
Awareness campaigns had also been done to dispel some lingering myths about the Covid-19 vaccine amongst health workers and ordinary people.
“However the impending vaccination of frontline health workers will be done on a voluntary basis. No one will be forced,” said Dr Shamu.
The delivery of vaccines to province marks yet another step in the bid to contain the virus by Government as the nation, just like the rest of the world, battles to control new infections and spread of the virus.
