Mashonaland Central has recorded 28 malaria deaths since January, with the hardest hit being Muzarabani district.
Twenty-eight people have died from the malaria outbreak in Mashonaland Central while 39 849 people have tested positive for the disease.
Speaking on the sidelines of a tour of Bindura Isolation Centre, the Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Honourable Monica Mavhunga said health officials are on the ground particularly in Muzarabani and Shamva districts which have been hardest hit.
“Our province now has been greatly affected by Malaria especially Muzarabani and Shamva. There was a challenge of a shortage of drugs but this is being resolved. The other challenge is Malaria symptoms are similar to Covid 19 symptoms and everyone who is sick goes to village health workers so we want the village health workers to be given adequate protective clothing otherwise they will be at risk,” she said.
Meanwhile, renovations at Chipadze isolation centre and construction of two receiving rooms are nearing completion and the centre should be ready for use by end of the week.
Minister Mavhunga encouraged people across the province to continue observing the lockdown in order to ensure Covid-19 cases remain at zero in the province.
