MASH EAST: Villagers bemoan slow pace of Murewa-Madicheche road construction

THE Parliamentary Portfolio on Transport and Infrastructural Development is touring road construction projects across the country in order to understand the challenges being encountered in the processes.
This Wednesday the portfolio committee toured the Murewa-Madicheche Road project in Maramba- Pfungwe area where villagers lamented the slow pace in road completion, thereby affecting development since 2018.
“The people here are now impatient as it has taken long for this project to be completed,” said one villager.
“We appeal to government to ensure contractors complete this road quickly as it is affecting development,” said another villager.
“This road is very key to our economic activities in the are so taking time to complete it is affecting our livelihoods,” said one entreprenuer.
Members of the committee expressed concern over the slow pace of the project.
“How does it take this long to complete this project which is very key to the economy of this area,” remarked Hon Oscar Gorerino Chairperson, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Chairperson on Transport and Infrastructural Development.
The project has been on the cards since 2018, with one contractor having pulled out last year for undisclosed reasons.
