THE Chihota community has appealed for more Advanced Level Schools in their area to cater for the increasing number of students in need of Advanced Secondary education
With Marondera West Constituency having only one school with Advanced Level status out of 15 secondary schools, villagers who spoke to ZBC News at a Careers Day at Marondera Secondary School appealed for more A level schools.
“We welcome the career guidance program brought by the Ministry of Education, but our challenge is that we only have one school with Advanced Level that is Mahusekwa High School, resulting in some students failing to proceed as parents can not afford boarding schools,” said Marondera Rural District Council Ward 18 Councilor, Hibron Gotora.
“We want to engage the government and some of our stakeholders to ensure we establish A- Level because our students are being disadvantaged, noted Peter Madzivanzira, Marondera Secondary School ,Development Committee Chairman.
According to the Provincial Officer Guidance and Counselling in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mashonaland East Province, Mr Ernest Mushambi, government s supports the idea of having Advanced Level schools close to the people.
“We urge communities to put resources together and move towards the goal of establishing schools with Advanced Level closer so as not to disadvantage our children,” he said.
The careeer guidance was attended by students from Primary and Secondary Schools from Marondera District .
