It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Zimbabwean coaches in the South African top-flight league with Norman Mapeza continuing with his unbeaten run at Chippa while Kaitano Tembo’s SuperSport faltered.
After taking over the reins at Chippa United in the South African topflight league, former Warriors and FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has managed to turn around the fortunes of the Chilli Boys rescuing them from the murky waters of relegation to become a competitive side.
Mapeza has registered 5 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses amassing a total of 18 points, moving the Chilli Boys from the basement to 10th position.
This Sunday was no exception as Chippa collected a point on the road in a 1-1 stalemate against Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
William Twala converted from the spot in the 56th minute to level matters after the Celtic had gone in front through a Ndumiso Mabhena strike.
However, it was not all rosy for Kaitano Tembo after SuperSport United dropped three points following a 2-1 loss at home to Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We were slow in the start and it took us time to settle in while the visitors enjoyed more possession. My boys didn’t play up to the game plan and we lost the match. Sundowns are a strong side and any slip up they capitalise since we are all in title contention,” mourned Mapeza.
Despite the loss at the weekend, Tembo’s SuperSport remain third on the Absa Premiership standings with 31 points, 11 away from log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
