Harare Giants Caps United were once again the centre of attraction in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, but this time on a positive note after thrashing struggling Whawha 6-0, with William Manondo the star of the show.
This comes after Makepekepe conceded their own set of six goals in their last match against Manica Diamonds.
The day, however, belonged to former Harare City forward William Manondo, who was the destroyer-in-chief, scoring a hat-trick to take his goals tally to five.
Manondo was ably assisted by another veteran in former FC Platinum midfielder, Rodwell Chinyengere, who scored a brace, with the other goal coming from teenager Tatenda Mukurumidze.
As if to mock their critics, the celebrations were symbolic too, after CAPS United players were dismissed as a group of players who are past their prime.
Even before Sunday’s thumping victory, Manondo has been CAPS United’s go-to man in terms of goals after scoring in all three matches since festive season break.
“I am a changed player because I am playing for Caps United as it’s a big team and it pushes you to do more and I’m happy to work with Coach Lloyd because he makes us improve, but I want to do more,” he said.
Meanwhile, 2015 league winners, Chicken Inn have taken over pole position after their 2-0 win over ZPC Kariba, with the Gamecocks on 15 points, while Manica Diamonds dropped to second with 13 points after a 1-1 draw against Yadah.
Champions, FC Platinum who bounced back to winning ways with a one-nil win over Harare City are fourth with 11 points, while Dynamos moved one place up to sixth with 9 points following their 2-0 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs.
But, not much has changed for Bulawayo Giants, Highlanders who are still within the circles of the relegation zone lying 15th with just five points after sharing the spoils with new boys Tenax in a goal-less draw.
