A CHIPINGE man who raped his 13-year-old niece has been slapped with a 15-year jail term.
Charles Mwayamudza(47) from the Mapungwana area in Chipinge appeared before regional magistrate Christopher Maturure in Chipinge this Wednesday.
He told the court that he committed the crime out of lust and blamed the evil act on evil spirits which he said were haunting him.
The magistrate convicted him and sentenced him to 15 years in jail after he pleaded guilty of raping his 13 year-old niece.
Prosecutor Themba Dhliwayo told the court that on an unknown date in March last year, Mwayamudza raped the minor after he was left in the custody of his brother’s two minor children.
The court also proved sometime in September last year the convicted rapist also forcibly raped the minor in his bedroom after he was for the second time left in custody of the two children.
The prosecution said the family tried to solve the matter on their own before a fall-out which then later led to the family reporting the matter to the police leading to Mwayamudza’s arrest.
Mwayamudza will serve an effective 15-year jail sentence while a year and a half was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
