Makodza judgment further deferred

SUSPENDED Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner Erasmus Makodza who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office will have to wait longer for his judgment after his matter was further postponed to next month.

The 14th of April has been set as the judgment day for Makodza after the matter was postponed for the third time.

This Friday, both the Presiding Magistrate, Mr Noel Mupeiwa and the State Prosecutors handling the matter were not present.

According to the State, Makodza allegedly influenced the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to award a contract to one, Maonei Chapfudza to run a business project on a police farm in Mashonaland East province.

Makodza allegedly presented Chapfudza to the police committee as a private investor without disclosing his private relationship with the woman.

The state alleges that the incident occurred sometime in 2019 when Makodza was Officer Commanding Mashonaland East Province.

Makodza is also accused of not disclosing a transaction to his principal.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old prison inmate, Casias Jack, who allegedly escaped from prison, has appeared in court facing charges of escaping from lawful custody.

It is alleged that in December last year, Jack was taken to work at a Farm prison garden.

The court heard that he asked his supervisor to relieve himself in a nearby bushy area and took advantage of the opportunity to escape before he was apprehended in Banket.

He was remanded in custody to the 21st of this month for plea recording.
