Major-Gen (Retd) Bhebe declared national hero

THE late Major General (Retd)Sydney Bhebe has been declared a national hero, with his burial set for Monday next week.

The announcement was made by
President Emmerson Mnangagwa when he visited the Bhebe home in Cranborne, Harare this Wednesday evening.

We agreed that those with Major General ranks will be conferred with a hero status only if they behaved well. We know very well that Major General Retired Sydney Bhebhe was a well behaved man, very humble and very unassuming,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the death of Major General Retired Bhebhe came at a time the country recently lost two Major Gnerals Godfrey Chanakira and Sikhulile Nyathi.

The family must find comfort in that their son, was now a son of government and you are not alone in mourning. The whole of government and the nation is mourning the loss,” he added.

Family representative Mr Irvine Bhebhe thanked the President for honouring their son with national hero status.

We want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for coming to be with us following the loss of our brother. According him, the highest honour in the country, we are very grateful,” he said.

Major General Retired Bhebe, who died on Monday, is survived by his wife Sarah and three children.
