Major facelift for Mapfungwe Secondary in Makonde

By Regis Mhako

The transformation of Mapfungwe Secondary school on Makonde, Mashonaland West Province, is on course with one block now complete, while a borehole has been sunk at the school, thanks to the intervention of area legislator, Honourable Kindness Paradza and a local benefactor, Anesu Daka.

Using proceeds from a charity golf tournament held in Harare a few months ago, the partnership has seen a classroom block being completed, a borehole being sunk and building materials for other blocks and teachers’ houses being delivered.

The development has been welcomed by the local community and school authorities.

“We never thought this would happen here. It’s a surprise to us, a villager, Mr Leonard Tachiona said.

Mr Giveus Ushe, the school head said, “We have been using makeshift structures, but we are glad now we have a modern building block.”

The local benefactor, Mr Anesu Daka who is a Chartered Accountant by profession and a presidential scholarship beneficiary, gave the scope of the work they are undertaking.

“While we have nearly completed construction of this block, I am glad to announce that material for another block and for solar system to power the borehole is in place. So, in the next few days construction of a second classroom block and teachers’ houses is expected,” he said.

Honourable Paradza took the opportunity to rally members of his constituency to work in unison to develop their own area and take a leaf from the likes of Mr Daka.

“We are the ones who can build our area. It’s not the responsibility of the MP alone. Let’s work together.”

Meanwhile, Mapfungwe Secondary School will from this year become an examination centre following the provision of examination papers safe keeping equipment.
