Ngwerume gets international attention with Covid-19 art collection

 Local stone sculptor David Ngwerume’s COVID-19 pandemic-inspired art has received international recognition due to its unique way of depicting the challenges facing the world.

After getting the limelight on social media and international press with his unique approach to art, Ngwerume is making waves on the global scene.

“Through this Art, Zimbabwe has been put on the map trending international in Fiji, Japan, Australia as we send the message of covid-19,” he said.

Since the beginning of the year, Ngwerume has spent much of his time carving pandemic prevention messages in stone, capturing the world’s attention with his expressive artworks.

His recent work dubbed ‘unto the third wave ‘ feeds into the vaccination campaign.

Said Ngwerume: “The wave over there shows the third wave and this art depicts a young woman; we are encouraging everyone eligible despite their age to get vaccinated to curb Covid-19.”

It is however Ngwerume’s piece dubbed ‘the jab of faith’ which has made international headlines after it was commissioned and taken to the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where it will be displayed.
