Zimbabwe described as promising destination post-Covid-19

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

MEMBERS of the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE), who have converged in Victoria Falls for their global summit have described Zimbabwe as a promising and re-emerging destination post-Covid-19.

The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) is a professional association dedicated exclusively to the global incentive travel industry.

SITE’s leadership team is made up of executives from leading businesses in the field of incentive travel from Zimbabwe’s source markets and beyond.

The executives are also pioneering the growth of the US$75 billion incentive travel industry. Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing SITE Executive Summit this Wednesday in Victoria Falls, the organisation said Zimbabwe has emerged as a destination of choice.

“Each year we concentrate on a destination a destination that is emerging or re-emerging in the incentive landscape and Zimbabwe is a perfect example of a destination that is re-emerging especially coming after the pandemic.

We want to shed light on the aspect of what Zimbabwe is all about. So, it is about providing education, providing trends, an action that needs to be taken, that we see from clients from all over the world,” SITE President, Mr Kevin Edmunds noted.

For the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), hosting the SITE summit is expected to put Zimbabwe on the global map.

“It talks to the engagement and re-engagement efforts by the government of Zimbabwe and has cascaded down to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, that we have been engaging to the rest of the World to come to Zimbabwe,” said Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer, Ms Winnie Muchanyuka.

“We are very excited that SITE Global could make it to this forum. Incentive travel is associated with high spending, so this is the quality of tourism that we would like to come to the destination and would bring us the receipts that we are looking for and upgrades that come with the destination from this kind of travel. For us to have SITE Global having their Global summit here is a very serious endorsement of the destination. We are excited that they ate here,” she added.

Incentive travel uses once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences as the ultimate reward or prize for extraordinary performance in a business setting.

According to recent research, incentive travel budgets are expected to rise by 34% in 2023, with a gradual return to mid or long-haul destinations.
