Government working to finalise digitalisation programme

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Government has expressed eagerness to finalise the digitalisation programme to ensure improved access to information for the citizenry.

The need to expedite the digitalisation programme to allow for the dissemination of information to all corners of the country took centre stage during Transmedia Corporation Annual General Meeting held in Harare this Friday.

Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Kindness Paradza challenged the signal carrier to think outside the box to save millions of dollars used to access transmission services and expressed his ministry’s eagerness to finalise the digitalisation programme to ensure improved access to information for citizens.

“I want to take this opportunity to challenge you Transmedia to come up with ways that can help the nation save money. As a nation, we are losing close to one million Euros yearly paying for Satellite services. We are happy that you have acquired new equipment which will help in the improved access information but I can say it is not enough, more needs to be done,” he said.

Transmedia Board Chairperson Ambassador Marry Mubi revealed that her organisation has since partnered with local tertiary institutions to come up with locally-manufactured transmitters.
