TEN local companies including Sakunda Holdings, CBZ Agro yields, ZB financial holdings, Better brands private limited, the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe and the Harare Beitbridge contractors this Friday donated over US$4 million in cash and equipment towards the government’s vaccination drive and the overall fight against COVID-19 in the wake of a surge in positive cases and deaths.
In his acceptance speech, President Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed gratitude to corporates for their continued support.
“These donations have come at the most opportune time as we currently battle against a 3rd wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, characterised by a more virulent Delta Variant, which has seen a surge in new infections and unfortunate mortalities,” said the President.
Sakunda holdings also donated five twin cab vehicles to the ZRP homicide department and 300 thousands litres of fuel to assist the police force in combating crime.
“The issues of robberies must go down and the robbers must go behind bars,” remarked the President.
Most of the cash donations are meant for the procurement of vaccines.
Over a million people have so far received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine with Zimbabwe among the top African countries in the vaccination drive.
