Zimbabwe has received twenty five thousand doses of the Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine purchased from Russia by diamond exploration company, Alrosa Zimbabwe limited.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Alrosa Zimbabwe Limited,Mr Vladimir Marchenko was part of the delegation which received the vaccines at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
This shipment is a clear desire of the Russian government through Alrosa to support the government of Zimbabwe and the people of Zimbabwe in its battle with the COVID pandemic so with this mutual activity I believe we will win the battle very soon,he said.
Deputy Minister of Heath and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro assured the country on the vaccine’s efficacy.
This vaccine has been tested in Russia and is working in other countries. This is the first batch of 50 000 doses. It will be distributed as required and we have the storage facilities,noted Mangwiro.
According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable David Musabayana, the country’s reengagement efforts are now paying off.
I want to thank the president for his vision of opening up the economy that Zimbabwe is open for business his philosophy of saying Zimbabwe is friends to all and enemy to none and reaffirming our relationship with our all-time friends. You know with Russia our relationship dates back to the times of the liberation struggle.
The Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine was approved for use in humans and is now being used in over 60 countries.
