THE Land Bank a subsidiary of the Agribank private limited is set to open its doors to the public by April with farmers across the country set to benefit from the initiative which is part of the country’s agriculture recovery plan.

Stakeholders involved in the banking unit are now finalising modalities to do with company registration and recruitment of staff as the bank meant for farmers is set to be open to the public.

Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and rural resettlement Dr Anxious Masuka told ZBC news that the bank’s opening is set to transform farming in the country for the better.

“We have set the date for opening this bank month end of April. This is the bank where farmers will get access to loans without stringent conditions. We are set to revolutionaries farming in the country. We need people to start to appreciate farming as a business. People need to invest in farming and get returns in the process….,” he said.

Agribank Executive Director Retail Banking and Agricultural Development Mr Francis Macheka gave a breakdown of benefits to be accrued once the bank becomes operational.

“This is one of the biggest thing to ever happen in the history of farming in this country. Our farmers have been having difficulties in accessing finances. We are ready to roll out this interesting business deal which is set to transform farming in this country. The new baby will culminate in creating thousands of jobs across the country. Remember we will need field officers to engage farmers in each and every ward. This is going to be huge and I can assure you that Zimbabwe will never be the same once we are open…,” he said.

The remodelling of Agribank will see the financial institution mobilising private sector finance in order to contribute to job creation, food security and social protection in rural communities.
