THE Zimbabwe women national cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, are hoping for a change of fortune when they face the United States in their second match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers this Thursday.
The Lady Chevrons need to dig deep to bounce back from their defeat by Thailand and get a positive result against the United States at Takashinga Sports Club in Harare this Thursday.
The host nation lost their opening match to Thailand by 8 runs on Sunday in a closely-fought contest while their opponents in tomorrow’s encounter suffered a heavy loss against Bangladesh in their first match by 270 runs.
The Lady Chevrons are under pressure to deliver a win will give them a chance to progress to the knockout stages.
“We are obviously under pressure since we lost our first game to Thailand that was a crucial game for us and that loss put a lot of pressure we have forgotten about that one because it’s now under the bridge we are now focusing on getting maximum points tomorrow and then following matches,” said coach Adam Chifo.
Captain Marry-Anne Musonda is positive the team will deliver.
“We are expecting to put up a good performance obviously having lost to Thailand in a tight game just by 8 runs the tournament still have three more games to try and come back and make sure we get to the next date so we are hoping to start the game with good performance and build from there.”
The top three teams in the two groups will progress to the super six stages of the competition.
