THE ZIMBABWE women cricket team will regroup in Bulawayo this weekend as they prepare for their Quadrangular series in Thailand.
The Zimbabwe Senior Women’s Cricket side is set to regroup as they gear up for a 45-day camp in Bulawayo ahead of their Quadrangular Series pitting hosts Thailand, Ireland and Scotland in April.
The Quadrangular series in Thailand has come at an opportune for the team with major focus on the World Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka.
“It has been a long break indeed but we are grateful for this opportunity before us and we will use the Thailand tour as part of preparations for the Sri Lanka World Cup qualifiers. We are going into camp in Bulawayo this weekend and hopefully we will emerge stronger particularly looking at the World Cup qualifiers. Our team has experience and young players so we definitely relish the chance we have at hand,” said Adam Chifo Lady Chevrons coach.
With the Zimbabwe Women Cricket team having been starved of game time since last year, the determination to succeed is the driving force behind the Lady Chevrons as noted by skipper Mary-Anne Musonda.
“We have been starved of game time because of some hurdles but now we relish the chance given to us and we are going to work hard to ensure we qualify for the World Cup which will give us a ICC ranking which we apparently don’t have. We have a greater chance to doing well and hopefully with the fusion of experience and budding cricketers we will jell quite well and come out a stronger team,” said Musonda.
The Lady Chevrons will participate in the Quadrangular Series in Thailand from the first to the 14th of April before leaving for Sri Lanka for the World Cup qualifiers between June and July.
The Zimbabwe women’s side last played competitive cricket in June last year.
