THE national women’s rugby sevens team, the Lady Cheetahs, are aiming high after winning the Southern Africa Rugby’s sevens tournament held in Maseru, Lesotho, over the weekend.
The Lady Cheetahs showed the huge gulf in quality between them and the lower-ranked teams in Southern Africa, storming to a dominant win without conceding a single point at the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Pre-qualifying Tournament in Lesotho.
The Lady Cheetahs’ win at the regional tournament saw them qualifying for the Africa Women’s Sevens Cup set for Uganda, which serves as a qualifier for the Sevens World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
Delight Mukomondo who was the tournament’s top try-scorer believes there is more to come from the team.
“We are happy and we are united so we can achieve a lot, I am happy as an individual with my achievements it’s because of where we come from, in Mbare we believe nothing is impossible.”
The team will only break camp for three days before they regroup to prepare for another tournament set for South Africa next month.
