Lady Cheetahs intensify preparations

THE Zimbabwe Women Sevens Rugby national team, the Lady Cheetahs have intensified preparations for the Rugby World Cup sevens pre-qualifiers to be held in September at a venue to be named.
The team has been training four times a week as it awaits to hear from Rugby Africa on the new dates and venue of the tournament after the initial postponement of the pre-qualifiers.
Zimbabwe need to top the Southern African group in order to make it the African qualifiers proper. The team has in the past managed to reach the last stage of the African qualifiers but have never made it to the World Cup.
“It is an issue of mentality we are working on the mental side of the game and we have also engaged a mental and psychological coach to help in that regard,” said the teams coach, Derrick Chiwara.
The team is in high spirits.
“We are ready for everything, this is a good team with a mixture of young and experienced players and we are ready to make the country proud,” said one of the players, Lindiwe Munerenyu
There is a likelihood that Zimbabwe can be asked to host the tournament as it has the requisite facilities to host such a big tournament.
