ZIMBABWE women’s sevens rugby team is confident of holding their own at the Hermanus Sevens tournament to be held in Cape Town, South Africa on the 22nd of this month.
The Zimbabwe Women’s Sevens Rugby team is faced with yet another challenge of vying for a podium finish at the Hermanus sevens tournament which will be held in Cape Town South Africa.
The Lady Cheetahs had a workout this Saturday morning as the clock ticks towards an event where Zimbabwe finished second and scooped silver in 2019.
With success fresh in the minds of players that took part at the 2019 edition, last year’s player of the tournament Gladys Mukome and Faith Mhungira are confident Zimbabwe will be among the formidable sides in Cape Town.
Glady Mukome said, “Last year we performed well in Cape Town finishing second so I am confident that we can replicate such a feat this time around. Last time we also had new players like in the current situation so it will all come down to how we apply ourselves in Cape Town.”
“We have a pretty strong side. I think we have been preparing well for Cape Town and the spirit among the girls is one of positivity. I think we stand a good chance of really given our opponents a good run,” Mhungira added
Lindiwe Munerenyu is also bullish but called for support as the Lady Cheetahs seek for resources ahead of the trip to South Africa.
“We have done well when it comes to preps but I think in order for the game to continue growing we just need resources which are at time hard to come by. We just plead for support so that we are able to perform to the best of our ability,” Munerenyu said
The Zimbabwe women’s sevens rugby team held trials at the end of last year with selected players training at their various provinces.
As the tournament draws nearer, the squad will now be training as a team ahead of the trip to Cape Town.
