UPDATED: Two die in another mine collapse

KWEKWE: Two mine workers died while one was injured when a rock fell on them in a mine shaft at Peper Moss Mine 3 in Kwekwe Thursday afternoon.
This follows another mining accident which killed two people last week at Global Phoenix mine in Kwekwe after the shaft collapsed while miners were inside, two died, two escaped and another was seriously injured.
The latest incident which happened barely a week after a similar incident is raising questions about the safety procedures at small scale mines in the area.
Inspector of Mines and Explosives in the Midlands province, William Chisangowerota confirmed the incident and said they have temporarily closed operations at the mine until they conclude investigations.
Reports indicate that another life was lost last year at the same mine under similar circumstances.
Peper Moss Mine general manager, Leeroy Zembe, shifted the blame to the miners for taking unnecessary risks at barricaded areas.
Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, Senator Larry Mavhima who visited the mine on a fact finding mission says government is mulling closing most small scale mines until proper inspections are done to preserve lives.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that people lose lives almost on a daily basis with most cases going unreported as people use dubious means to extract the yellow metal.
