KARIBA Dam Rehabilitation Project is on course with some specific works which will improve power generation in Zimbabwe and Zambia set to be completed next week.
The completion of the works will pave way for the lifting of power generation restrictions on Zesco Limited of Zambia and Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) which had been reduced to six (6) hours on a few selected dates.
In a statement, Zimbabwe River Authority Chief Executive, Engineer Munyaradzi Munodawafa said the request to reduce power generation will end after the completion of specific works on January 24.
He said the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project is expected to be completed by 2024 adding that it will ensure the long-term safety and reliability of Kariba dam.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe River Authority says the water inflows into Kariba Dam only started improving this month due to the late onset of the rainy season.
The authority is however hopeful that the dam levels will continue improving in light of the Rainfall Season Outlook which predicted normal to above normal rainfall in the SADC region.
