Judiciary system must be transparent, Chief Justice Malaba

TODAY is the official opening of the legal year and judges across the country are leading proceedings in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Masvingo high courts.
Addressing stakeholders at the official opening of the legal year in Harare, Chief Justice Luke Malaba has said transparency is important as it guarantees freedom to court proceedings and witness actions being taken by judiciary.
He has highlighted that the court must be accountable to the public noting that judicial officers are employees of the public and judiciary authority is derived from the citizens of Zimbabwe.
In Mutare, High Court Judge president, Justice George Chiweshe said courts had enormous powers and it is the work of the judiciary to be transparent and just.
He revealed that Mutare High court is set to have another judge which will bring the total number of judges to three as the court was operating with only two judges. The coming in of this new judge will help expedite cases as more work is anticipated in 2020.

The court was operating with two judges that is Justice Hlekani Mwayera and Justice Isaac Muzenda. High court judge president, Justice George Chiweshe who officiated at Mutare High Court’s 2020 opening of legal year praised the two judges for the exceptional work they have been doing.
Proceedings are also underway in Bulawayo and Masvingo.
