Chinese authorities adopt plan to improve public health knowledge

China has published a three-year action plan to improve health literacy among its citizens from 2024 to 2027, as reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS, citing the National Health Commission (NHC).

Authorities expect the level of health literacy among Chinese residents to improve by an average of about 2 percentage points each year during this period.

The paper notes that key measures include better regulation of the production and dissemination of health information, talent training, and enhanced social protection measures.

Health literacy is an important indicator of economic, social development and health, the paper says.

Authorities point to the importance of involving non-health departments and communities in raising awareness of health issues and the need to shift the focus from disease treatment to prevention.
