IN 37 days, on the 18th of April, Zimbabweans will celebrate the historic 40th independence celebrations, with the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services emphasising the celebrations will resonate on the values and ethos of Vision 2030.
Speaking this Tuesday during a post-cabinet briefing, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvanga said the country’s 40th Independence Day celebrations will reflect the 2nd Republic’s commitment to national unity, social and economic development.
“The 40th celebrations will reflect the values and ethos of vision 2030,” said the minister. For 39 years the country’s main independence celebrations have been held in Harare. However, this year for the first time as Zimbabwe turns 40 the main celebrations will be held at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.
“The 2020 independence anniversary will be unique in that it will be the first to be held outside Harare on a national scope, the first-ever in 40 years. The celebrations will be held in Bulawayo. Participants will be drawn from Zimbabweans at home and in the diaspora,” she said.
This year’s independence day celebrations will run under the theme Zimbabwe at 40- defining the decade towards 2030.
“The theme is premised on the fact that at 40, Zimbabweans are mature they can look ahead with pride as a nation shaping its destiny,” she explained.
