Independence celebrations an opportunity to market Bulawayo tourism

The decentralisation of Independence celebrations by the Second Republic is set to benefit a number of sectors including the Environment, Tourism, Climate and Hospitality Industry.

As the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority focuses on marketing and nurturing domestic tourism, the decentralisation of independence celebrations has been cited as a good platform to shine the light on the various tourist destinations across the country.

In an interview with ZBC news after visiting Khami Ruins, where this year’s Independence flame will be lit, Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi said her ministry will capitalise on the Independence celebrations to grow domestic tourism.

As a ministry we will be riding on these independence celebrations to showcase the beautiful sites that our provinces have to offer. With independence celebrations in Bulawayo, we aim to market the region to domestic tourists and diplomats that will visit the place. Most people don’t know about Khami, if we start here from the ruins to the museum, people will appreciate what Bulawayo has to offer,” she said.

Last year, President Emmerson Mnangangwa launched the heritage corridor here in Bulawayo and this a true reflection of what heritage is and it aligns into our Zimbho campaign which is about domestic tourism,” she added.

The decision to decentralise Independence by the Second Republic has ensured that no one and no place is left behind.
