FORMER Premier Soccer League club, Hwange, is edging closer to another dance with the big boys after opening a five-point lead in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One league.
Chipangano were relegated three years ago and are hoping to quickly bounce back and join the big boys.
Hwange’s win coupled by Arenel’s one-nil loss to Casmyn saw Chipangano open up a five point lead after 23 matches.
Hwange are now on 57 points, followed by ZPC Hwange with 52, while Arenel have slipped down to third with 51 points as Talen Vision complete the top four with 45 points.
In the Northern Region, Simba Bhora shot to the top of the log after edging PAM FC one-nil at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva.
Former Caps United Captain, Ronald Chitiyo scored the all-important goal as the race for promotion takes another twist in the region.
Going into the weekend fixtures, Herentals U20 were on top of the log, but were held to a nil-all draw by Commando Bullets, a result which forced them to surrender pole position.
Third-placed Golden Eagles beat Golden Valley 2-1 to keep pace with the log leaders.
Simba Bhora now have 52 points from 23 matches followed by Herentals with 51 points, while third-placed Golden Eagles are still in the picture with 49 points.
In the Eastern region, Greenfuels continued with their march to the Premier Soccer League after another victory, this time a narrow one-nil win over Ruwa Progroup away from home.
The Lloyd Mutasa-coached side has a massive 11 point lead and is yet to taste defeat this season.
In the Central Region, perennial campaigners Shesham are two victories away from finally securing their premiership status.
Last time they missed promotion on the last day of the season but they are determined to correct that after getting the better of Kwekwe United 2-nil at Gweru Sports club.
TelOne are five points behind Shesham with three games to go.
