WOMEN in mining from Mberengwa have received a major boost after a local non-governmental organisation availed a US$1 grant for their operations.

The participation of women in mining has been hindered by operational challenges owing to a lack of mining equipment, among other challenges.

The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Agency (ZELA) has, however, moved in to capacitate women in the sector through a one million United States dollar grant.

Women in mining concur the grant is a game-changer as the nation chases the envisaged US$12 billion mining industry by next year.

Mining associations in Meberengwa have welcomed the grant as a huge boost to women’s quest to be self-reliant in the sector.

The government has also shown commitment to promoting the participation of women in the mining sector through availing equipment and creating an enabling environment.
