Horse racing action set for this Sunday

HORSE racing fans are in for a treat this weekend with seven races on the cards at the first meet of the year at the Borrowdale Racecourse this Sunday.
A total of 58 runners will take to the starting stalls with a total of seven races on the cards.
There will be two maiden plate races, the first being run over 1 100 metres while the second will be decided over 1 700 metres.
Fans can also expect the Novice plate, merit rated 70, handicap merit rated 60 handicap and 50 handicap.
After winning the Hachiman sprint last year, Kingstone passage will not be there to defend its title when six runners take to the starting stalls in what is expected to be the main attraction.
Though not too confident about the chances of Silver Coin which goes into Sunday’s race with the heaviest weight, assistant trainer, Vanessa Birketoft is hoping top showings by Armstrong in South Africa will translate to success in the Hachiman sprint on Sunday.
“I am not too sure about Silvercoin who goes into Sunday’s race weighing in at 60. I feel as though Armstrong has a strong chance given recent showings in South Africa. I feel two wins heading into the Hachiman sprint puts Armstrong as a strong contender,” Birketoft said.
Sunday’s meeting will be the first of the year, paving way for what promises to be an exciting 2020 on the horse racing front.
Winning horses will pocket ZWL$ 27 000.00 with those that finish second accumulating ZWL$9 000.00.
