THE ZANU PF War Veterans League says Heroes Day commemorations set for next week will give Zimbabweans an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by departed and living heroes for the independence of the country.
As the nation gears up for the Heroes Day commemorations, War Veterans League Secretary in the Politburo, Cde Douglas Mahiya has implored Zimbabweans to unite in promoting the industrialisation agenda.
Cde Mahiya said the political and economic independence must be cherished by all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
The Heroes Day commemorations reflect on the selfless sacrifices by individuals some who have lost their lives while some are living. The Heroes Day is a day for everyone to celebrate the economic and political independence we have today. Young people must emulate such sacrifices to ensure that they carry the legacy forward, said Mahiya.
Cde Mahiya also explained the difference between the War Veterans league and the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association.
The War veterans league becomes the third league of the ruling party after the youth and women’s league, the association works hand in hand with the league in the mobilisation of party supporters,he explained.
Zimbabwe will this year commemorate Heroes Day virtually with only a limited number of people expected to attend the main event in Harare, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
