Hauna Community focused on value addition

The need to promote value addition in the agriculture-rich area of Honde Valley well-known for producing bananas, tea and coffee, topped submissions at a budget consultation meeting held in Hauna this Monday.

Some of the submissions touched on increasing support towards healthcare and education with particular emphasis on e-learning, the opening of a border post in Mutasa and support to accelerate development in rural areas in line with the devolution agenda.

Given the abundance of agricultural produce in the area there is need  for the budget to support the setting up of processing plant in the area.Value edition can help accelerate  the rate of development in the district.

We need to consider the interests of the youths, women and the disabled in the budget. Promotion of exports and the establishment of a border post in Honde Valley should be supported. The budget should also promote water harvesting and irrigation development as well as financing activities that fight corruption, said some Hauna  Residents.

The consultations saw key national development issues peculiar to Honde Valley and Mutasa being proposed with   Mutasa North Legislator Chido Mwadiwa appreciating the need to support agricultural activities in the area.

We are very happy that the consultations saw a number of issues with national interest being discussed  The turnout was good and people showed appetite to promote local development.2)The meeting showed that each area has its own prioritise with regards to development. The need to support agricultural activities is valued in this area, she said.

Public consultations are held every year to ensure the national budget incorporates the interests of the citizenry.
