Hardrock and TelOne set for explosive Midlands derby showdown

Story by Wellington Makonese

NEWLY appointed TelOne FC head coach Saul Chaminuka says he is confident of turning around the club’s fortunes ahead of a high-stakes Midlands derby against Hardrock FC at Ascot Stadium this Saturday.

Chaminuka takes charge of TelOne at a critical stage of the season, with the club sitting 16th on the 18-team league table after managing just one win in 10 matches.

The experienced coach replaces Herbert Maruwa and faces immediate pressure to improve results and steer the team away from relegation danger.

“It’s a challenging job. My task is to ensure that we start moving up the table,” Chaminuka said.

“I’m a modern coach who has seen it all, and I doubt there can be any substitute for experience. I am confident we will do well.”

TelOne head into the derby boosted by their recent victory, while Hardrock arrive full of confidence following a commanding 6-1 win over fellow league newcomers FC Hunters.

Chaminuka believes the derby atmosphere and his arrival will motivate players to raise their performance levels.

“We are playing a derby and every player wants to express themselves. Being a new coach, every player wants to show what they can do,” he said.

The Midlands derby is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of week 11 in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
