Harare turns red as lovers celebrate Valentine’s day

VALENTINE’s Day fever gripped Harare this Friday with lovers wearing the red colour synonymous with love while gift shops and florists recorded brisk business as lovers spent time and their cash on gifts as a sign of showing their love to their loved ones.
February 14th has become one of the key dates on the country’s calendar as a day when lovers celebrate their love. While people share different sentiments and beliefs about the day, behind this day lies a fascinating history and theories on the origins of the day.
However as usual, lovers of various ages seem to be intrigued by this annual celebration of love and affection as evidenced by the fact that it is one of the busiest times of the year for most restaurants, boutiques and salons as both men and women do something special for their loved ones.
We caught up with some of the people who were doing something special for their better halves who had this to say.
“On this day I really expect lots of presents as this will be a symbol that my partner really cares…”
“Of Cause it is a leap year but as women we need to be spoilt by our men…”
Florists and gift shops recorded brisk business, while restaurants and hotels also said couples were pouring into their establishments.
“We have recorded brisk business as you can see there is a hive of activity…”
Many people see Valentine’s Day as a special day to express one’s love for another indeed a time when people show feelings of love, affection and friendship and is celebrated in many ways worldwide.
