Harare mayor Jacob Mafume was arrested Wednesday evening on corruption allegations.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed confirmed the development.
He said Mafume was apprehended ZRP special anti-corruption unit which is working with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
Mafume who was detained at Rhodesvile Police Station is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
