30 players have made the national team provisional list after being selected at the biggest club handball tournament held at the weekend as part of preparations for the Zone Six Championships set for next month.
The Sunshine City Handball Championships took centre stage at the weekend, with clubs representing each of the country’s four regions battling for honours.
The three-day tourney which was held at the Mbare Netball complex and City Sports centre was dominated by hosts Harare City who topped the medals table.
The first of its kind in Zimbabwean Handball history, the tournament was also an opportunity to select national team players ahead of the Zone Six Championships.
“We are excited that Harare city managed to host a great platform for the Zimbabwe Handball Federation national team selection who will take place in the All Africa games qualifiers and we are happy to say this promotes the development of Handball and we hope for more district tournaments to develop more players,” said Farai Gwisai Handball National Team Manager
The 30 players made the national team shortlist with the focus also on the All Africa Games qualifiers set for Ghana in September.
However, the Zone Six Handball Championships set for Harare in June are the immediate challenge.
